Forsyth Fountain Removed for Maintenance: What It Means for Your Savannah Wedding

Forsyth Fountain Removed

Forsyth Fountain Removed for Maintenance

Breaking news from the City of Savannah: Forsyth Fountain removed for maintenance starting at an unknown date in early summer! Our Forsyth Park elopement couples have been updated, and until the fountain has been fully restored and is back in place, we won’t be booking any elopements or micro-weddings at the Forsyth Fountain. But don’t worry – Forsyth Park is still full of dreamy locations for your ceremony and photos. And if you’re set on having a fountain as your ceremony backdrop, Savannah has some other stunning options in its historic squares. Whether you’re planning a small elopement or a full Forsyth Park wedding, we’ve got you covered with beautiful alternatives and helpful tips!

Forsyth Fountain Removed + Other Iconic Savannah Wedding Spots

The Forsyth Fountain is one of Savannah’s most recognizable landmarks and a favorite Savannah wedding spot for many couples. But the fountain hasn’t had a full restoration since 1988, so this will be much-needed maintenance and we’re sure it will be even more magnificent when it returns. We don’t know when it’s being removed exactly (according to the city, likely in the “early summer”) and we don’t know when it’s going to be back in place – so we will continue to update here and on social media as we get more info!

We know it’s disappointing if the fountain was part of your wedding day vision—but Savannah still has so many iconic, photo-worthy spots for your wedding and photos. If you still want to get married in Forsyth Park, we have some gorgeous spots to choose from below. And, there are other locations in Savannah with a fountain, that you could either use for your ceremony OR just for couples photos after your Forsyth Park elopement.

Four Beautiful Ceremony Spots in Forsyth Park

If the Forsyth fountain removal has shifted your plans, don’t stress—there are still picture-perfect places to get married in the park. These four spots are some of our favorites:

Under the Oaks

Forsyth Fountain Removed | Alternative Wedding Locations

This is one of the most iconic backdrops in the park. The canopy of moss-draped oaks feels so Savannah, and the soft, filtered light through the trees creates absolutely gorgeous photos. It’s peaceful, romantic, and works beautifully for both elopements and micro weddings.

The Low Branch

Forsyth Fountain removed temporarily - alternative wedding locations

This location offers a dramatic, intimate feel—one long oak branch arching low and wide over the ground, creating a natural frame for your vows. It’s a quieter corner of the park and is right near the Fragrant Garden for stunning portraits afterward.

The Fragrant Garden Columns

You can’t hold your ceremony inside the Fragrant Garden, but its white columns and the arching oak trees surrounding the garden make an incredible backdrop.

One thing to note: there’s a playground nearby, so while this area is lovely any day, we recommend scheduling weekday ceremonies at this spot to avoid the weekend noise and bustle.

The Corner Oak

Tucked into a quiet corner of Forsyth Park, The Corner Oak is an ideal spot for couples looking for a little more privacy while still enjoying the beauty of the park’s iconic oaks. It’s shaded, peaceful, and surrounded by natural greenery—perfect for intimate ceremonies and heartfelt vows.

Still Want a Fountain Backdrop? Try These Savannah Squares

If having a fountain in the background of your ceremony is important to you, we’ve got great news—Savannah has several charming squares with beautiful fountains that work wonderfully for ceremonies and couple portraits.

Columbia Square

This spot is quaint, quiet, and full of charm. The historic homes that surround it add a romantic touch, and the fountain is perfectly centered and makes a beautiful ceremony backdrop.

Lafayette Square

The Lafayette Square fountain was famously a teal green for years, but it’s recently been painted sleek black. Despite the color change, this fountain surrounded by brick walkways still makes a gorgeous ceremony location!

Orleans Square

On the quieter west side of the Savannah historic district, Orleans Square has a classic Southern feel with a stately central fountain. It’s a peaceful, romantic choice—especially for couples looking for a more private-feeling ceremony spot.
